Dr. Scott Burne
Consultant Sports Physician Dr. Burne (MBBS MSpMed BSc FACSP) works as a Medical Consultant with Injury Treatment. He manages all acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, as well as all medical problems that arise from (or are complicated by) exercise. Workplace injuries and illnesses form a regular aspect to his work. Consultations include a complete history and examination, followed by an evidence-based management plan. When referring, Dr. Burne recommends the services of highly-regarded colleagues in medical and paramedical fields.
Dr Burne is Team Doctor for the Opals Australian Women’s Basketball (2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2006 World Championships) and will continue this involvement at The 2008 Beijing Olympics. In addition, he is a Team Doctor for the Balmain Tigers Rugby League. Previous sports coverage also includes NSW Rugby Union (state juniors, Sydney Grade and Colts), Australian Rugby League (Canberra Raiders, Wests Tigers), State Cricket and National Athletics. In 2000 Dr Burne worked as Medical Officer for the Sydney Olympic Games, Sydney Paralympic Games, and The Arafura Games in 1998. He also worked for 12 years with the Australian Defence Force. He is a Visiting Fellow of the UNSW Sports Medicine Programs, an internationally renowned post-graduate course for doctors.
Dr. Ameer Ibrahim
Dr Ibrahim, MBBS BSc (Med) FACSP FFSEM, is a Sports Physician with over 10 years of sports medicine experience dealing with professional and elite athletes and teams across a number of different sports. He has held posts with the Australian Socceroos, Olyroos and junior Australian soccer teams, was medical Director for the Parramatta Power Soccer Club for 5 seasons. He also covered the Gold medal game at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He is currently a FIFA sports medicine instructor for the Asian Football Confederation with involvement in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Dr Ibrahim is also a consultant Doctor for the Sydney Roosters, Newtown Jets and NSW Institute of Sport. He sees patients from various sports including Oz-Tag, Rugby Union, Tennis and Gymnastics. Dr Ibrahim has completed his Part II Fellowship examinations for the ACSP and has undertaken 4 years of full time training in sports medicine. He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (Ireland). Dr Ibrahim has published research into hip and groin injuries in professional soccer players.
Dr Ibrahim is an injury management consultant (IMC) with WorkCover NSW. He also consults for Qantas at the International terminal advising his clients on work injury reduction and acute management of injuries. His musculoskeletal background was enhanced by working as village doctor at Perisher Valley medical centre for two seasons, treating acute injuries. Dr Ibrahim’s special interests lie in tendonopathy of the shoulder, knee and ankle. He has helped treat chronic tendon patients with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), a new injectable treatment that is showing promising results superior to cortisone. This involves taking some blood and using the growth factors to heal tendonopathy and muscle tears. He is also well versed in orthotics prescription and fitting.
Dr. Corey Cunningham
Dr Cunningham (MBBS, FRACGP, MSpMed, FACSP) is a fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, having completed specialty training in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He graduated from UNSW in 1993, is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, completed a postgraduate Masters in Sports Medicine at the University of NSW and has worked in Sydney, Darwin and at the Australian Institute of Sport. He is the convener of the annual ACSP Clinical Sports Medicine Conference for medical practitioners and Allied health professionals.
Dr Cunningham’s experience involves working with elite teams across a range of sports, including rugby, soccer, rugby league, netball, rowing, basketball and golf. He is an accredited provider for the NSWIS medical program and has presented at professional conferences as well as to community groups of teachers and sports medicine personnel. He currently works with Australian Rugby, Rowing Australia, NSW Institute of Sport and The King’s School. His interests include the management and prevention of injuries in all active people - from recreational to elite.
Dr. Milton Cohen
Associate Professor Cohen is a consultant physician specialising in pain medicine and rheumatology. Associate Professor Milton Cohen is a consultant physician in Pain Medicine and Rheumatology on the St Vincent's Sydney Campus as well as providing consulting services for Injury Treatment.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a past Dean of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Dr Cohen has been a pioneer in the development of pain medicine as a discipline, in the education and training of pain physicians and in bringing the plight of the person in persistent pain to the attention of the broader medical community. He has contributed chapters on pain to many textbooks and has spoken on topics as diverse as challenges to clinical reasoning in pain and the ethics of opiate treatment. Dr Cohen's clinical and research interests are broad and include issues in pain theory and practice, rational pharmacotherapy for pain and implications of persistent pain for public policy
