Optimise Medical Assessment Board

Injury Treatment specialist medical assessment services are designed to provide multidisciplinary specialist opinion to aid the nominated treating doctor (NTD) in overcoming barriers to medical progression and subsequent return to work, as well as to aid in the development of an appropriate medical management plan.

The medical management plan is designed to return an injured employee to work within an appropriate timeframe, as dictated by the prognosis associated with their specific injury.

Common flags for referral include:

  • Lack of correct diagnosis
  • Further clinical investigation is required to determine diagnosis / medical management
  • Lack of progression in line with appropriate timeframes associated with the diagnosis
  • Lack of treatment planning or prognosis
  • Medical restrictions are not aligned with the injury which in turn impact on the options for suitable duties or vocational goals
  • Current physical or psychological treatment services are not assisting injury recovery and a review of these are required
  • Psycho-social barriers are preventing case progressing and a psychological assessment and possibly treatment is required
